The Undiscovered Self

If you know me, you know my political stance on the current United States government, as well as its Commander-in-Chief, or as I like to call him “The Big D” (alias for “The Big Dictator”).

If you’ve ever read George Orwell’s *1984*, you will (or should have) picked up on some very disturbing characteristics of *Oceania* that eerily hint at the goings-on of today, although our reality is a watered down version of it. If you liked *1984* (I did, despite how dark and insignificant it can make you feel), please be prepared to add another book to your list.

Carl Jung’s *The Undiscovered Self* is a great read, although at times fairly thick (in regards to writing style, not the amount of pages). There are some ideas floating through this book that will make you misinterpret Jung’s incredible skills of observation as dark prophecies, considering that the book was compiled in 1957 and printed in 1959. What scares me more than *1984* is that *The Undiscovered Self* is a non-fictional, academic paper.

Back to The Big D, where all of this fits together nice and snug, like a tank top fresh out of the dryer. An excerpt from the book reads as follows:

In regards to the State and it being a replacement of God,
??Free opinion is stifled and moral decision ruthlessly suppressed, on the plea that the end justifies the means, even the vilest. The policy of the State is exalted to a creed, the leader or party boss becomes a demigod beyond good and evil, and his votaries are honored as heroes, martyrs, apostles, missionaries. There is only one truth and beside it no other. It is sacrosanct and above criticism. Anyone who thinks differently is a heretic, who, as we know from history, is threatened with all manner of unpleasant things. Only the party boss, who holds the political power in his hands, can interpret the State doctrine authentically, and he does so just as suits him.??

That perfectly describes the current state of the U.S.: Vile policies carried out and supported by a majority on the grounds that the end result will have justified everything. Those who are in favor of the current Commander-in-Chief are patriots. Those who are against him are labeled as supporters of terrorism through pacifism. Finally, the real kicker that is put into the most perfect string of words that I would only do injustice in changing it, “Only the party boss, who holds the political power in his hands, can interpret the State doctrine authentically, and he does so just as suits him,” our George W. Bush.

That is what I will leave you with today. Take it home to the kids and have them toss it around in the yard.
