It’s Entertaining AND Academic

So we’re (wife and I) watching some Japanese dramas at the moment, and I even came across a site that has the scripts in Japanese available! Can’t ask for more than that!

The dramas we’re watching are 薔薇のない花屋 (The flower shop with no roses) and エジソンの母 (Edison’s mom).

薔薇のない花屋, as the title implies, is a heavier drama that deals with human relationships. Here are the scripts for it!

エジソンの母 is more light-hearted; it’s a modern story loosely based on Thomas Edison’s rambunctious childhood. The characters are in no way related to Thomas Edison, but the main-character is a smart, overly-inquisitive kid who often finds himself in trouble because of his own curiosity, just like the famous inventor. The scripts for this show are posted, also.

Be entertained while you learn.

  • Awesome find! I don’t find too many sites that use EUC-JP encoding, though. Then again, I don’t often surf the Japanese-only web. :-) I’m definitely going to use this. Thanks!

  • It’s easy to find a (usually horrible) English sub for most Japanese dramas, but it’s amazingly difficult to find the original Japanese script! I just thought I’d share the wealth, and I hope you get some good use out of that site, Deas!
