Getting a feel for our typhoon

I found a video of Typhoon Nari here on Jeju taken by what sounds to be an Australian. He had a lot more time than me, and a camera that shoots proper video, so have a look at it and see the sort of damage we experienced.
Before you watch, keep in mind that there [...]

Typhoon Attacked!

I don’t know if all of my friends and family are aware, but our island was hit full-force, head on by typhoon Nari yesterday, with wind speeds at 110 MPH and 1.5 inches of rain per hour (from 6 a.m to about 5 p.m.). The airport grounded 162 flights, which meant our hotel was [...]

Regrets

I found these in a little underwear shop called “Bodyguard” here in Korea. In retrospect, I regret not buying them.

How great is that?
I originally thought that they had designed these specifically for me, but apparently the store’s mascot’s name is Alex.

O’Sulloc

Eun Hye, Lani Lee, and I went to a tea farm (museum?) called O’Sulloc down on the south side of Jeju. (O’Sulloc? Is that Irish?) Here’s the documented evidence.
Here are Eun Hye and Lani in the lobby, plotting something.

I think their scheme involves me somehow.

Here’s a showcase of some tea pieces. [...]

Happenings.

We had no internet for 4 days and it was in those 4 days that everything happened that I wanted to write about here, but I don’t have time right now so I’ll just give you a recap:
We’re watching some Japanese dramas that I’ll talk about in another post later. (For those of you [...]

KAL and their silliness.

Daeguowl from Kimchi for Breakfast posted about KAL’s competition to win a space on the test flight for the new A380 Jumbo Jetliner.
I’d like to take this opportunity to explain why I was struck by the absurdity of this news.
I’ve said it once, and I’ll say it again - I’m not scared of flying. [...]

Lani-sized

Here’s another one.

Lani-sized furniture. But 40,000 Won…($40 USD)…that’s not Lani-priced. Sorry Lani, no sofa chair for you.

懐かしいな~

納豆 (natto). I love it. I just had some for breakfast this morning. It’s been over at least a year and a half since I’ve had the chance to eat it (福島人 love natto. I’ve decided that 福島人 is a legitimate word).
The local supermarket sells natto here on Jeju! I’m [...]

First impressions of Jeju

I didn’t really touch on my impressions of the island in my last post, so here goes. (There is no flow to this. It’s more like notes in chunks. Chunky notes, if you will. No smooth Jif here. Choosy moms choose Victory Manual. Where am I going with this?)
It [...]

Adventures in Moving

Here’s how things went down, for those of you interested.
We woke up at 5 a.m. on Friday morning and drove 3 hours to a big boat. The boat ride down to Jeju island was 3 hours and 30 minutes. We arrived at our new place at 2-ish, but the tenants said they were [...]
